Rock Lyrics Meaning 80’s
One of the most well known, discussed eras of all time and of music is the eighties (80’s). In this period, the AIDS virus had not been quite discovered yet and many people were under the perception that having an excellent time with as many individuals as possible was the way to live. 80’s Hairstyles and outfits looked as bright and out there as they could, with long hair, spikes and mullets being in fashion across the decade.
In addition, the musical idiom was forever changed as many rock groups created names for themselves and made well-known hits we play on the radio even today. In fact, many of those groups are still together and still playing shows today, although they may not have all the original members.
If there was ever a true time to Rock then the 80s would truly have to be one of them, the eighties was the time to rock and roll. The 80’s was the era when Rock was huge and almost everyone just wanted to rock, and rock they did!
The rock lyrics of the eighties in general would be frequently about having a great time, as the economy and culture thrived across the decade without any pressing issues, none like we have today at least. In addition, a standard theme attached to rock and roll was sex and drugs. Drugs were not as highly looked down at, as they are today, and it would be rather common to see people smoking weed or other drugs while at a gig of a high profile rock band.
While today it is rather common in rock lyrics to learn about child abuse, suicide, and terrorist attacks thru the radio, those were subjects unheard of in this golden age of rock and roll.
In addition, there were some “rock lyrics”, which would target dancing and having a fun time, as discussed before. However, there would also be the Rock ballads, songs planning to lift the spirits of the listeners. One example of this and well liked of these was written and performed by Journey. Don’t Stop Believing’ is still a well-liked hit for people of every age even to this day. Overall, the eighties was a great time for the generation that lived it and it shows in how it is still discussed and played on radio stations today.
