Rock Roll Singers
One of the top yet most matter-of-fact clichés of the mega rock group would be the decorative and extroverted singer. Frequently the livewire of the band, the rock singer screams and yells, swinging his microphone as the struts on stage as the other members of the band stand motionless in the shadows behind him. The band, the stage, the arena, the group – all of them obey the singer, this is his dominion, and he calls the shots as he sees fit.
Rock and Roll Frontmen also help build the stage presence and overall aura of a band, and it is considered tragic for a band to have a gifted vocalist who does not have the natural talents needed to steer the band into a rock show night in and night out. It’s their duty to not only carry out a shining vocal performance for the band’s songs, but to also be the agent between the audience and the band, bridging the opening between mere mortal men and rock megastars. Let us have a look at two of the best livewire vocalists rock music has ever seen.
1) Robert Plant was fabulously trendy with similarly great looks and vocal talent to match, Plant was potentially rock’s best frontman. He made his celebrity and fortune with UK rock legends Led Zeppelin, and played an urgent role in helping the band sell their three hundred million albums across the planet. Robert Plant, alongside guitar master player Jimmy Page, were the dynamic pair of the band, and with their flare jeans and chest-baring shirts they caught the hearts and minds of millions around the planet.
Their chemistry on stage, coupled with the raw power from the rhythm section of John Paul Jones and John Bonham, cemented Led Zeppelin’s place in the records of rock history. Plant’s excellent vocal ability enabled him to add another dimension of mystique and charm to the band’s emotionally charged tunes, and his trademark stage presence and energy was unique at the time. He will be heard doing what he does best on such Led Zeppelin hits like Stairway to Heaven, whole Lotta Love and Black Dog. The tragic death of their drummer John Bonham marked the heartbreaking end of their touring years but Plant will always be known as the voice and face of Led Zeppelin.
2) Axl Rose, it is a love or hate affair with him. He was the first vocalist of Guns ‘N Roses and only remaining original member left in the new lineup-touring today (2008). Rose became famous ( joke intended ) in the celebrated years of the band in the early 90s – particularly after the release of their landmark album appetite for destruction – and helped bring enormous business success to the band with his soulful and energetic singing in songs like Welcome To The Jungle and Sweet Child O’Mine. It was not all OK for Rose, though.
His unbalanced anger and emotions got him and the rest of the band in difficulty many times, and was without a doubt the basis why all of the other original members of the band started giving up on the band one at a time. Rose had landed the band in hot water many times, but one infamous event concerning a fan who was videotaping a Guns show allowed the world to see Rose rear his ugliest head yet. Gay rights activists, who charged Rose of being disseminating anti-gay rhetoric, also criticized him.
Fans of the band will never forgive Rose for not allowing the name of their beloved band to rest in peace after having made a ludicrous Guns ‘N Roses swap with a unmemorable lineup. Not just that, Rose is completely in charge of the band’s most pricey album never released, titled Chinese Democracy – that has swallowed over $13 million in production costs over the course of many years, and with no date of release in sight. To make things worse, Rose has related many times formerly the album will be out shortly – but with lots of the forgettable material widely available on the web, it is unsurprising the album will not revive the bands outwardly futile existence. Though Rose let his personal problems get the best of him, he is going to be known as one of the most unique rock ‘n roll voices of the 90s.
